On April 4, 2022, the City of San Diego council members voted on an ordinance that creates a temporary moratorium for no-fault evictions. The council members voted 5-1 in favor of the ordinance, which means that it will require a second reading and will go into effect 30 days after the final approval.
Additionally, at yesterday’s meeting the ordinance was amended to provide a clearer end date. The moratorium will end on September 30, 2022 or 60 days after the end of the local emergency, whichever occurs sooner.
If your property is in the City of San Diego and you are planning on terminating a tenancy for any of the following reasons you should contact an attorney prior to serving a 30/60/90 day notice to quit.
- Substantial Remodeling/Correction of Violations
- Withdrawl from the Rental Market
- Owner or Relative Occupancy
We will work to keep you informed as to any future action by the City of San Diego to restrict residential evictions.
